Theresultsof theDBT-led pilot, carried outwithcompaniestrading between theUKand Japan,underscorethehuge potentialbenefitsof usingdigitaltechnologytospeed up global trade.
UKbusinessestaking partsawcost savings fromeliminatingpaper-based shipping documents,reduced administrative burdens through faster, automatedprocesses, and greater efficiency acrosstheirsupply chains.
Underthepilot,documentarycredit checks performed by banks-which commonly takeupto tendays-werereduced to justone hour,paving the way for wider rollouts of the technologyandcomplementing the UK's digital trade corridorprogramme also underway with France and Germany.
Last month, the British Embassy Tokyo and the Department for Business and Trade brought togethermore than50Japanese industry leadersandrepresentativesat an event marking thepublicationofreports,highlightingthe benefitsand opportunitiesof digitaltrade.

This pilot shows how digital trade can deliver real, tangible benefits forUKexporters- helping businesses move goods faster and with greater confidence.
By working closely with partners inJapan, andcomplementing ourpromising digital trade corridors with France and Germany, theUKis demonstrating global leadership in making trade cheaper, faster and more secure through innovation.
