LONDON, May 12 -- The government of the United Kingdom issued the following news:
Companies Houseretainsallcompanyrecordsfor as long as those companies areactive. Records of dissolved companies are currentlyretainedfor 20 years, before selected recordsare transferredto the appropriate Public Records Office (for example, The National Archives for companies registered in England and Wales). Unselected records should be destroyedunder the current policy.
Companies House has paused the destructionand transferof records during this review period.It'sstill possible tosearch for information on theFind and update company information serviceand theSearch for a dissolved company serviceduring the pause. You can also continue torequest access to company recordsnotavailable on this serviceduring the pause, for a fee.
The government's aim is to strike the right balance between allowing access to transparent company information inthe publicinterest, protecting personal data, and providing value for money.
Any future proposals to change the retention period will be subject to public consultation.
