LONDON, Aug. 4 -- The government of the United Kingdom issued the following news:
South WestWater has applied to theEnvironmentAgencyto changeitsenvironmental permitsto permanently use the new outfall, which is around 300m south of Straight Point.The new outfallwill dischargetreatedwastewater.During periods of heavy rainfall, it may also discharge settled storm sewage.
The outfallhasbeengivenconditionaltemporary permissiontooperatebythe EnvironmentAgency becauseit reduces the risk of pollution to Exmouth Beachbathingwater and the Exe Estuary. ButSouth WestWater needsto change itsenvironmental permitsto use the outfall permanently.
The environmental permitvariations are now openforconsultation.
South WestWatermust show that its proposals meet environmental standards,comply withEnvironment Agency policy, and protect people, wildlife and designated sites, including shellfish waters, bathingwatersand conservation areas.
