Joint Committee on the Draft Conversion Practices Bill

The Committee has been appointed to consider and report on the Government's draft Conversion Practices Bill which sets out provisions to prevent and criminalise abusive conversion practices.

In its call for evidence the Committee is seeking views on how the draft Bill could be improved, and how any issues in the current drafting of the Bill can be resolved.

Chair's comments

Commenting Alex Barros-Curtis MP , Chair of the Committee, said:

“We want to ensure this draft Bill strikes the right balance between stopping abuse while protecting other rights. Like any legislation, the clarity, scope and definitions of any new offences are vitally important - so we want to understand if this draft Bill gets those right.

“We are a cross-party committee which has been set up specifically to scrutinise the Draft Conversion Practices Bill. We are looking forward to receiving detailed submissions about the issues raised in the draft Bill to support this work.

“If you or your organisation have knowledge to share with us on these issues, I would encourage you to submit evidence to us. We have a tight deadline to complete our work so please do submit your evidence as soon as possible.”

All written evidence should be submitted by Monday 16 November, for the full call for evidence and details of how to submit evidence please see the Committee’s webpage

Questions posed in the call for evidence are available on the website
