The House of Lords European Affairs Committee has launched a call for evidence for a new short inquiry into UK touring artists in the EU.

Call for evidence

Inquiry: UK touring artists in the EU

European Affairs Committee

Rather than repeating the extensive work already undertaken to map the challenges facing UK touring artists in the EU, the Committee's inquiry will focus on identifying the barriers to progress and the most effective steps the UK Government could take to improve the situation.

Chair's comments

Lord Stirrup , Chair of the Lords European Affairs Committee, said:

“There is now little doubt that the terms of the UK’s current relationship with the EU have created genuine difficulties for UK artists and associated workers seeking to work in the bloc and in particular to tour across multiple EU states.

"The UK and the EU have stated consistently in recent years that they would like to ease these difficulties. However, five years after the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) took effect, very little has changed.

"The challenges facing UK touring artists in the EU have been extensively documented in recent years, and we do not intend to repeat that work. Instead, our inquiry will focus on identifying the political, diplomatic and practical measures that the UK Government could take, within the broader context of the UK-EU relationship, to deliver the greatest results for UK artists seeking to tour or otherwise work across the EU.

"We look forward to considering developments arising from the forthcoming UK-EU summit on 20 November as part of our inquiry."

The Committee invites anyone with relevant expertise, experience or ideas, whether from the UK or elsewhere, to submit written evidence by 6pm on Monday 30 November.

The Committee expects to begin taking oral evidence in late Autumn and intends to report its findings before the end of January.
