Read the letter
The Treasury Committee Chair has written to JP Marks, Permanent Secretary of HMRC, about any tax implications of the Premier League’s investigation into Manchester City Football Club Ltd.
On Tuesday, the Premier League published a report which concludes that “well over 100 individual breaches of the Premier League Rules across the course of many seasons” have taken place. Dame Meg Hillier MP asks for reassurance that the department is ‘seized of the importance’ of the case and poses a number of questions to Mr Marks.
These include whether HMRC is aware of the findings and if an unredacted copy of the report has been requested by the department. The Chair also asks for an overview of HMRC work around the taxation of remuneration and any other potential tax avoidance within football clubs.
