LONDON, Dec. 4 -- The government of the United Kingdom issued the following news:

Oswald Greenaway(60),fromShoreditch,East London,hadhis sentence increasedbyayearaftertheSolicitor General referred hiscase under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.

Thecourtheardthatin the early hours of30 September 2023, Greenaway had parked his carnearHomerton,intheHackneyarea, when he spotted avulnerablewomanon her own.

Greenawayofferedthe womanalifthomebutinstead,hedroveherto his home. Once in his flat,hegave heralcoholbeforesexually assaulting the victim.

After two hours,the victim managed to escape. But Greenawaywent after the victim and was found by the police withher andan11-inch knife on him.

In a Victim Personal Statement, the victim saidthe incident severely affectedher mental wellbeing, physicalhealthand day-to-day life.

TheSolicitor GeneralRt HonEllie ReevesMPsaid:

I was utterly appalled by this case.Oswald Greenawayis a dangerous sexual predator, whodeliberately targetedavulnerablewoman beforekidnappingandsexuallyassaultingthem.

I welcome the Court of Appeal's decision to increase Greenaway'ssentence,andI would like to offer mydeepest sympathiestothe victim, whohasshowed remarkable courage throughout.

On 28 July2025 atWood Green Crown Court,Oswald Greenawaywas sentenced tofouryearsand three monthsafter he was convicted of one count ofkidnapping,one count ofsexual assault, one count ofassault occasioning actualbodily harm and one count carrying a bladed weapon.

On30October 2025the Court of Appeal increased the sentence tofive years and three months.
