LONDON, April 29 -- The government of the United Kingdom issued the following news:
A UK Government spokesperson said:
We stronglycondemn Russia'sunjustified decision last month toexpelanotherBritish diplomat andthemalicious public smear campaign that followed. Thisbehaviour iswholly unacceptable,andwewillnot tolerateharassment or intimidation of our diplomatic staff.
Wehave thereforesummonedthe Russian Ambassador to announce we aretakingreciprocalaction, revoking the accreditation of a Russian diplomat.
Russia's repeated unprovokedand unjustifiedactionsare designed to disrupt our diplomatic work andform part of a widercampaignof aggressive behaviour towards the UK.
Any further action by Russia will be treated asanescalation and met with a firm andproportionateresponse.
