Tripoli's historic 12th century "CitadelRaymond DeSaint Gilles"was officially inaugurated following months ofrestorationefforts carried out by the Lebanese army andyouthfrom marginalised communities,throughUK funding tothe NGOMARCH.
Today'sinauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Head of Mission Victoria Dunnewith theDirector General of Antiquities at the Ministry of Culture (representingMinister Salameh)Sarkis Al Khoury, Tripoli's MayorDr. Abdel HamidKareemeh, senior Lebanese Army officers, Head of MARCHLea Baroudiand local youthfrom the city.
ThisUK-funded restoration project isa powerful testament to the collaborative spirit between theLebaneseArmyandmarginalisedyouth in Tripoli,underscoring a shared commitment to preserving the city's rich heritage for future generations.
Since2016, the UK has funded MARCH to help reduce sectarian tensions and support community cohesion,by engaging at-risk youth from marginalised communities in Tripoli and Beirut.
Following the inauguration, Deputy Head of Mission Victoria Dunne said:
