WewelcomeMauritania's continued engagement with theUPRprocess, as well as:efforts to strengthen access to education (particularly forgirls); measuresto address slavery and human trafficking; andcollaboration with humanitarian partners.

We recommend that Mauritania:

Continuesadvancing the rights of women and girls byimplementing legislationongender-based violenceandensuring access to justice and survivor-centred services.Legalisationongender-based violencewouldreaffirmthe Government's commitment.

Increasesefforts to eradicateslaveryand discrimination, including hereditary and descent-based slavery, by strengthening investigations,prosecutionsand accountability,ensuringfair and equal access to descendants and providing effective support for victims.

Strengthensjudicial protection for migrants and asylum seekers by adhering to international frameworks, ensuring humane treatment, due process safeguards, access to asylum procedures and protection from refoulement.
